Genomic sequencing initiatives have laid the ground work for sophisticated proteomic approaches aimed
at uncovering gene product structure/function relationships. Potential chemotherapeutic targets for many
human diseases will undoubtedly surface from these studies. Moreover, proteomic analyses of the genomes
from pathogenic microorganisms should uncover novel drug targets. The mission of the Pharmacogenomics
Team is to identify and characterize novel gene products, and evaluate their efficacy as targets for combating
human diseases, such as, atherosclerosis, cancer, diabetes, and fungal mycoses.
